From the Clinic:
When your low back feels a little cranky, your first instinct might be to stretch it out or avoid movement altogether. That’s what most of us have been taught.
But here’s the thing: your low back isn’t fragile.
Just like any other part of your body, your low back needs strength and load to stay healthy and resilient. While rest and stretching can feel good in the moment and are great for short term relief, they don’t always help your back build the robustness it needs for workouts and everyday life.
Instead, controlled strength work that gradually loads the low back can help improve tolerance, confidence, and long-term durability. The goal isn’t to push through pain, it’s to move well, within a comfortable range, and allow your back to do what it’s designed to do: handle load.
So next time your back feels off, consider strength over avoidance. And if you’re unsure where to start, a coach can help guide you.
One of the things we see the most is people who think their back pain is normal and just a part of life. It might be common, but doesn't have to be normal.
If you are one of those people that is in the cycle of your back hurts, it feels better, then hurts again, there's a good chance that it could use more strength. You don't actually have to accept that your back is going to hurt.
Your back is stronger than you think 💪🏼
